American Optical
- Founded: 1833
AO exists today as brand name belonging to Carl Zeiss Vision.

Founded in 1833 as a frame manufacturer, AO did not begin manufacturing ophthalmic lenses until 50 years later in 1883. AO was acquired by SOLA in 1996 which subsequently merged with Carl Zeiss Vision in 2005. The AO brand still exists today under the umbrella of Carl Zeiss Vision.
